Key Tips For Managing Your Child's Asthma Symptoms By Maintaining The Compressor Of Your Central Air Conditioner

Posted on

If you are the parent of a child who suffers from asthma, you may have noticed that they are more prone to flare-ups on days when the allergy counts in your area are higher than normal or if they come into contact with strong, unpleasant or artificial smells. As a result, one important and easy way to keep your son or daughter healthy is to make sure that the air in your home is as clean as possible. Therefore, it's essential that the compressor associated with your central air conditioner is properly maintained and functioning as it should. The following maintenance tips will provide you with some basic knowledge that you will need to do so.

Keep The Compressor Clean

Unfortunately, many compressors have broken down as the result of trash, leaves and other debris that has made their way into the unit. Possible damage can be quite expensive to repair and can include everything from damage to the fan to a destroyed motor. Therefore, keeping the area free of trash is quite important.

In order to tidy up the area, use a screwdriver to pull the cage away from the unit after turning off the power to the entire unit. When you can safely access the inner workings of the compressor, pull out the larger items that you can by hand and then use a car vacuum to remove smaller contaminants. If you don't have a vacuum that is petite enough to be used within the compressor, a soft rag can be used. Then, reassemble the unit, turn the electricity back on and proceed to the next step.

Make It Easier For The Compressor To Stay Clean By Removing Nearby Trash, Debris, Etc.

If it has been a while since your compressor was cleaned, you might have been surprised to see how contaminated the area was. In addition to providing that service on a regular basis to minimize the trash that found a new home, you can also lessen the likelihood of clutter finding its way into the unit by keeping the area free of items that could eventually become problematic.

For instance, you can trim the nearby trees and make sure that those trees are healthy enough to not lose too many leaves. If you store your garbage cans nearby, this is a good time to relocate them. Unless you live in an area that requires the use of an air conditioner all year, you can prevent dirt or sediment from falling in during extended periods of non-use by keeping a piece of plastic covering the vents. However, you should not do so exclusively, since outdoor rodents might think it's a cozy home and an airtight or almost airtight compressor can allow the area to get and stay damp.

In conclusion, it's impossible for anyone to stay healthy for long when they are breathing contaminated air and asthmatics are likely to show the harmful side effects of poor air quality than a healthy person would. As a result, it's imperative to make sure that your air conditioner is capable of providing that clean air and the advice shared above will permit you to ensure that the compressor is safe to use.
