Maintaining An Air Conditioning System

Posted on

It is very nice to come inside on a hot summer day and enjoy the nice cool air conditioning. It seems that the only time that the air conditioning breaks down is during the summer. This is simply because this is the time that you are using the air conditioner. However, there are a few different things that you can do that will prolong the life of your air conditioning and ensure that you go through the summer without a problem. Here are a few simple things that you can do that will help maintain a well working air conditioner.

Air Ducts

A very common problem that people run into with their air conditioning unit is the air ducts. This is often a fix that people overlook. Over a period of time dust and other debris can start to block off the air from flowing freely in the air ducts. This can cause many problems both physically and to your air conditioning unit. Physically your air ducts trapping dust can cause upper respiratory infections to be more common. With your air conditioning, the unit itself will have to work harder to push the air through the ducts, and this causes strain to be placed on the system. The adds strain can cause break downs to occur much more frequently than normal. With a vacuum you should clean out the vents a few times a year, and every other year you should have them cleaned deep down by a professional.

Air Compressor

The air compressor that is located outside the home is an integral part of the air conditioning system. This is where air is taken into the house. The compressor has a series of coolant rods with coolant that runs through them. It is very important that the air compressor is level. If the air compressor is not level then the coolant is not able to travel properly and the air will not cool. It is also important that you clean the compressor on a monthly basis. Be sure to open it and clean out any debris that you find within. You should place the the compressor away from any vegetation that may encroach on the compressor.

Technician

At least once every other year you should have a professional, such as from Extreme's One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning, look at your entire system and fix any small problems that may arise. Fixing the small problems on a regular basis can save you from having to make the big expensive fixes.
