Four Benefits Central Air Conditioning Provides

Posted on

When you think of central air conditioning, you are probably only thinking of comfort in hot weather. However, air conditioning of this sort provides certain benefits over other types of air conditioning. Here is just a sample of those benefits.

Energy Efficiency

You know exactly what it will cost you to run your central air because of the energy efficiency sticker right on the unit. These stickers are an invaluable part of formulating your monthly budget. If the sticker on the unit states that it will cost you $86 a year to operate, and you only operate the unit four months out of the year, then you know that $86 divided by 12 months equals $7.16 a month, multiplied by four months equals a little over $28. That is extremely easy to budget for, right? Not to mention the fact that an appliance that is that energy efficient while keeping your whole house very comfortable is quite a deal.

Modified Air Humidity

Central air also controls the amount of humidity in the air in your home. It manages to balance the humidity such that it is neither too humid nor too dry. That is essential for anyone in your home who suffers allergies and nosebleeds from dry air, and persons who tend to sweat excessively when the air is too humid.

Temperature Controls on Your Thermostat

With window air conditioners, your options are low-medium-high cool and high blow or low blow. You cannot really control the exact temperature of your home with these units. Additionally, you have to constantly walk around the house, manually shutting the units off or turning them on as needed.

Central air, however, allows you to control the exact temperature of your home from the thermostat. If you want your home to remain a consistent seventy degrees, the thermostat manages that by monitoring the temperature of your home and automatically turning on the A/C any time the temperature in your home rises above that. You never have to think twice about it, mess with any buttons or dials, or walk around your home turning on or shutting off the A/C. It is also easier to control the temperature by turning the A/C on and off at one centrally-located place—the thermostat.

Overall Cost

Window air conditioners are not meant to last. Five years, tops, is about how long they usually go. Heat pumps are not nearly as energy efficient as central air because they are constantly pumping and exchanging air, even in winter. A central A/C unit works with your forced air ventilation system. The initial cost for central A/C leaves some flabbergasted, but when you consider the fact that you probably will not have to replace this unit for one to two decades, it pays for itself.
