What's Wrong With My Refrigerator?

Posted on

When you think about the top used appliances in your home, the refrigerator is probably near the top of your list. Keeping items cool is the only way to keep them healthy and safe for consumption, but when the refrigerator goes out you might start to panic. Refrigeration repair services are available to help fix any issues that may arise, but trouble shooting on your own is always a good step while you wait for help. Here are a few refrigeration repair tips that might help extend the life of your refrigerator.

Check the Power Supply

This might seem like a simple solution, but it might be where your problem resides. Over time your fridge might be moved as you open and close the doors to access your food or beverage products. Double check that your plug is all the way inserted into the power source, and if it has gotten knocked loose or the power strip has gone out, replace it as soon as possible. The longer your food goes without being at the proper temperature, the more you will have to toss. Having a crew out to simply replug the refrigerator is excessive, and might cost you money, so check it before you call refrigeration repair services.

Check the Temperature

If your food items are not as cold as you think they should be, or if they are getting too cold and even freezing, chances are something happened with the temperature gauge on the appliance. Adjust the settings to make sure it is set to 37-41 degrees, and give it a few hours. If your fridge is still not cooling to the desired temperature, and you have double checked that nothing is blocking the vents, it might be time to call for refrigeration repair. When the issue is coming from inside the refrigerator, usually it is the fans that are broken, and this requires repair services to fix the issue.

Check the Ice Maker

In the hot summer months, the last thing (aside from your air conditioner unit) you want to break is the ice maker. Ice can help cool off your beverage and keep you from overheating. If the ice maker is not working properly, you might need to troubleshoot the problem. Before messing with any water or ice features on your refrigerator, turn off the water supply to the appliance. Make sure all of the water valves are open and that there are no bends or kinks in the water lines going to the refrigerator. Any repairs beyond these might require the assistance of professional refrigeration repair services.
